If you’re a firm believer in karma, you probably don’t worry too much about getting revenge on the person who cut in line at the grocery store or who refused to make space for you to sit on the bus. They’ll get what’s coming to them! But unfortunately, life isn’t fair. And sometimes, even the most terrible people don’t get what they deserve while they’re still alive.

Redditors have recently been discussing evil historical figures who somehow managed to leave the Earth without ever having to answer for their crimes. Whether they were let off way too easily or avoided any punishment at all, below, you can read all about these awful people who somehow “won.” Keep reading to also find a conversation with Alan Bellows of Damn Interesting, and be sure to upvote the people that you wish had seen justice!

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Mother Teresa. A belief she didn’t have the courage to test.

Your comment implies that there are more bad religious people than there actually are, to be fair - I would have also got defensive. For every horrible person, there are literally thousands of others who are not.

she was sooooo against birth control, she just wanted to help more and more people, to then have people think she was so great. She created more people that needed to be "helped" by her.

That tracks with her being located in India where the caste system and karma form the core teachings. Kinda weird though that they don't connect the dots that if you leave someone to suffer then in your next life you will also be left to suffer...strange.

So fitting. Commended by the president that planted the MAGA seed. Beatified by the Pope that protected pedos. And now glorified by the most vile subhumans (Republicans) our country has ever produced. Cool.

I think Bush2 is a better candidate for the beginning of the MAGA disease we're dealing with now. He worked very hard to remove the separation of church and state. Then Sarah Palin really drove a spike through what used to be the Republican party value system. Trump just rolled in and took advantage of the Religious Right movement.

Sorry it's good to be hating on MT, but there's a few thousand nazis that have done worse and retired to South America (or Moscow, or the USA, or remained businessmen in Germany) without consequences. So I feel it's a bit too much of a political choice... I'm not even sure she's the worst person in that picture (what with choosing to overthrow S-American democratic goverments, arming Iran as well as Iraq, destroying the US middle class and swinging the GOP hard-right).

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Shirō Ishii The commander of Unit 731 and other facilities that performed medical experiments on human beings during WW2 in Japan Surgeons would cut open someone without anesthesia, ripping off limbs, or tearing out body parts. They’d sometimes tie a person to a pole outside in the freezing winter and then pour cold water on them to speed up the process of freezing their limbs. Once completely frozen they’d then smash the limbs off with a metal rod. Some of the most sickest, heinous s**t imaginable. The part that angers me the most is that he, along with several others were granted immunity in exchange for information and research. Got away free and never was punished.

When asked about it, he had the audacity to say that he wants people to look at him and dream big. The problem is, people seem to be lapping it up.

I watched a travel video by an English guy who went to North Korea recently. The current Kim's picture is everywhere, in train stations, in bus stations, in the street. Giant portraits of him literally everywhere! It's like a form of forced worship, the leader looms over every aspect of life. Its really weird and just a bit disturbing.

Facism doesn't end any better. So extremist left and right sucks. But they both have one thing in common: dictatorship. Gee, I guess that's why it's important to have candidates, regardless of party, that acknowledge the validity of elections. In fact, I can't think of anything more unpatriotic than supporting a candidate that refutes them. Can y'all?

To learn more about some of these terrible historical figures, we reached out to Alan Bellows of Damn Interesting, a site dedicated to sharing fascinating information about science, history and psychology. Alan was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda and discuss some figures that he believes didn't get what they deserved.

"Most people will know the obvious examples—the ruthless dictators who relinquished mortality before justice apprehended them: Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Augusto Pinochet to name a few," he shared. "There are also controversial examples, such as Christopher Columbus, who enslaved, mutilated, and executed indigenous people after discovering the Americas. And Henry Kissinger, who engaged in 'statesmanship' mostly by instigating wars and overthrowing legitimate governments."

One man said "Trump could murder people on the steps of the White House, and I'd support him". When the interviewer asked another if they'd support Trump if he became a dictator, she said "Yes, absolutely. Why not?" Another man said "Yeah, I'd support Donald Trump as dictator, maybe that's what this country needs". Dangerous, delusional, brainwashed people.

Today the leading cause of opioid addiction is orthopedic surgeons. Mostly for spine surgery which only has a 60% success rate. So many people were given pain meds before they had surgery and after the surgery could not break the pain/d**g dependence cycle.

There is no doubt that the Sackler family (Purdue Pharma) bears a heavy responsibility for the opioid public health crisis. But, blaming the Sackler family (Purdue Pharma) for the entire opioid public health crisis is being narrow-minded. Donations from opioid manufacturers to politicians continue to influence policy decisions. In addition, a revolving door of officials leaving government regulatory agencies such as the D**g Enforcement Agency regularly join the pharmaceutical industry with little to no “cooling off” periods. the pharmaceutical industry and the health products and services industry are the top lobbying spenders in the United States. Progress has been made, such as recognizing substance abuse disorder and the passage of the ACA. But, so long as powerful lobbying groups can influence lawmakers, this crisis will not be fully addressed as it deserves.

"The American Liberty League, who attempted to recruit a World War I hero in a coup against the US government," Alan added. "The administrators of the Untreated Syphilis Study at Tuskegee, a study started in 1932 to monitor the progression of syphilis in a Black population. In the mid 1940s penicillin was discovered, and it was found to be an effective cure for syphilis, but the study administrators kept this a secret from the test subjects, and warned local doctors not to provide the medication. The extremist views come from way earlier than this. The ME used to be an intellectual super power where algebra was invented. Hamid al-ghazali declared mathematics the work of the devil and it all went down hill from there. The Mongols didn't help either.

Sorry. This has been a part of all abrahamitic religions from the beginning. It's built into the very core of all those religions. They are all created so that, when a monster like these show up, they can use it as the tool it was intended to be.

The comment about Quran and muslims by heather is stupid and dumb. Screaming ignorance of her and the those who favor her comment. You are one piece of dumb nation that are led by false media. You know nothing about Quran and islam. try to hear about islam from American people who converted islam.. they were brave and capable of using their brains before judging. Taqiyya. The Koran explicitly tells muslims to "kill the unbeliever wherever you find them". Most of the more tolerant parts are abrogated (replaced) by later, more violent verses. So she was pretty close.

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Josef Mengele. The head physician at Auschwitz who performed experimental surgeries. Nick named the angel of death and was never held accountable. In fact, he was mostly unknown to the public until the 80s when one of his survivors brought his crimes to light. He's one of the many examples of why I don't believe in Karma.

    BarryCheckTheFuseBox:

The Nazi ‘Doctor of Death’ who escaped Germany to South America, started a family and despite being hunted by the US, German and Israeli governments for decades, didn’t even hide his identity by the end of his life. He drowned after having a stroke in 1979.

Karma ,in the original Eastern sense, would say that the fruits of his tree of life were poisonous... and he would be reborn in the next life as a piece of s**t garbage creature, that knows nothing but suffering. I think you mean that you don't believe in the Americanised version of Karma - which involves immediate response by the universe, i.e in your life-time, to punish or reward your deeds like some kind of Disney-fied mini-deity. I can't believe in either myself... but I HOPE the former is true.

Did a school project about what Romani people (hope it's the correct term in English) had to endure in Nazi Germany (I choose this topic) One chapter was about medical experiments, on children. One thing that still makes me sick to the bones, over 20 years later, is the part about were they tried to "create" conjoined twins

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Pol Pot got to die in his sleep in 1998. He deserved far worse.

    Baboshinu:

Also important to note that he was interviewed a few times prior to his death. Whenever he was asked about any of his atrocities, he would play dumb about it and skirt the questions. He would say things like the classic denial technique of “oh come on it wasn’t that many people” and “okay but I didn’t kill babies. Just adults. I’m not a monster, you know”. He openly stated he had a clear conscience and had no remorse for the millions he killed all the way through to the end. He was a genuine monster.

So many times I’ve seen photos of dictators, despots, and other miserable, evil people and been shocked at how benign they look. Pol Pot tops the list: he looks like a kindly grandfather who sits in the park, bringing treats and toys for the kids, handing out money, and beloved by all. Good grief. I’m grateful when the despots LOOK evil, like Ramzan Kadyrov of Chechnya. Then I know to stay away from ‘em. I’d have accidentally been nice to Pol Pot had I ever crossed his path.

Thankfully, however, some people who have committed atrocities did get their comeuppance. "One example that comes to mind is Thomas Midgley," Alan shared. "One of his inventions was leaded gasoline, which caused the whole planet to become polluted with neurotoxic lead."

"He knew about lead's ill effects, even suffering some of them himself due to his close contact with it. Nevertheless he deliberately misled the public about the danger. He later invented CFCs, the spraycan propellants that famously damaged the ozone layer," Alan continued.

"Midgley received nothing but praise for these inventions during his lifetime, the ill effects did not become evident until later. In his middle age, he was disabled by polio, so he invented a system of motorized pulleys to help him navigate his bed. He was later found strangled to death by a malfunction of his own invention," he added. "While he never faced true justice, one could argue that he did receive poetic justice."

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Jimmy Saville. One of his victims once escaped him, ran into the lobby and shouted that Saville was attempting to assault her. The people there simply laughed and mocked her.

Definitely one if the most sickening travesties and injustices in my opinion. So, so many people for decades knew, they just had to, yet the was allowed to continue being left alone with and abusing countless children because of his celebrity. F**king disgusting that he died happy, beloved, and without facing any repercussions for his abhorrent actions.

We had a hotel guest once, hiding from her partner. She never came out of her room, afraid to be seen by anyone he might have sent to spy on her, or the guy himself. She was in a really bad place, with a giant purple proof of his abuse on her face. He showed up once or twice but we lied to him about her being here and the only reason I didn't call the cops was that he accused the girl of stealing his money (to get away from him, probably, if it even happened). So I didn't want to get her in more trouble. To think people would laugh at a woman trying to get away from someone who tried to assault her? Mock her? Disgusting.

He was even given a set of keys and his own room at Broadmoor (highly secure mental health hospital in the UK) giving him free access to the female wards which just shows how influential he was. The way he charmed and his way into a position of power and made himself untouchable is truly shocking. So many people not just at the BBC but in Government turned a blind eye to behaviour and excused it as being 'a joke.'

Can’t remember whether it was an article or a documentary, but whatever it was, I learned that nurses in the hospitals he visited tried warning kids away from him. My guess is that this happened pretty much everywhere he went, folks trying to protect the kids. When I was growing up, a pedo uncle took off with my little sister. The grownups all tried to think of things to say to him to get her back. Yes: up until recently, that’s how it was. Every time I think of it, I wanna scream! NO ONE thought it was appropriate, apparently, to shriek “BRING MY DAUGHTER BACK THIS VERY MOMENT, YOU SICK ANIMAL!” Never mind calling the police. This was the uncle who jammed his tongue down our throats and ground us against his erection. Bleah. People were weird in the “olden days”; no one apparently called Saville out to his face. 😰

    Reasonable-You8654:

He is one of the few people who truly make my blood boil with seething rage when I read and think about what he did, and that’s only to start with the fact that they held conferences preying on African countries with permission of absolutely nobody to go and treat human beings like animals.

He is one of the few people that I would’ve genuinely wished to dig out of his grave only to spit on him and throw him to some vultures. He will never have been able to suffer enough for the disgusting acts of horror he ordered and committed towards Congo, to this day in 2024 they haven’t recovered.

The West is only in it's current form as a result of the murder and theft it has committed in the global south and against indigenous peoples. And then some have the gall to say that the African continent has benefited from the genocide committed against them and that Africans should be grateful for the aid that western nations "give" them.

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It The guys that tortured Junko Furuta.

It’s terrible that just reading reading the name Junko Furuta immediately conjures the most gruesome upsetting and imagery in my mind. That poor girl, I can’t believe her killers are all walking free.

Wow. Just read the Wikipedia article. That poor girl, I can’t imagine the mental torment and physical pain she was put through. Shocking that her torturers and murderers got such short sentences and horrifying that the parents in the house where she was held were complicit in it.

Hopping on the top comment, so you don’t have to search it, they sexually assaulted and gang r*ped her in many ways, forced her to perform for them, tortured her, and deprived her of food over several weeks before torturing her to death. And the kicker? The longest sentence for any of the perpetrators was only 20 years.

For anyone wanting to read the Wikipedia entry, please be aware that there are graphic descriptions in it which may be incredibly upsetting for some. I chose to read it, and now I wish I hadn't. These young men had a history of rape. And then to do what they did to this poor woman... I'm sorry, but I fully support the death penalty for people like this, when there is no question of guilt. What they did to her...there is no redemption for this. They deserved a painful death.

I just looked her up and read an article, and I haven't been this infuriated in a long time. I never could have imagined that so many people could do those things to another person. The worst part is, 3 of 4 of them spent less than 10 years in prison (the 4th got 20 years). They all have been released, and from what I read, 3 of the four of them have offended since their release. She didn't deserve that, they deserved worse than what they got, and the whole thing makes my skin boil. To everyone out there, be safe, guys, girls, everyone look out for yourself, for others, never stop fighting for justice.

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Reagan. Had the CIA sell crack to black neighborhoods to raise secret funds to give to Iran. Destroyed black neighborhoods and families, gave rise to the projects and has overshadowed U.S. black culture for decades to come. Also, helped get rid of insane asylum funding which flooded the streets with mentally ill homeless. Economic depression causing stock buy backs legal again, which is why we have a short term investor driven economy resulting in massive layoffs without any real notice.

Reagan paved the way for the rise of open racism. He had toured the country opposing the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts in the 60s. As part of the GOP's Southern Strategy, he refused to meet with any civil rights leaders during his eight years in the White House. He publically speculated the Martin Luther King Jr. might have been a Communist.

They call Joseph Smith a profit and there are just as many pictures of Brigham Young as there are of Jesus in churches and seminary buildings. One thing I find very interesting about Joseph Smith is that after his death, his (first) wife and their children did not go with Brigham Young to Utah, they stayed in the east. NONE of his children took over or followed in his foot steps or even went to Utah. I think maybe his wife was just done his s**t or something, but I think it’s very strange.

Brigham Young took what Joseph Smith started and went running with it. Named the 'Father of Mormon Polygamy', he supported slavery and banned African Americans from priesthood. He was governor of Utah, stepping down only after getting a pardon for getting state militia for fighting federal forces supporting non-Mormon officials. Died very wealthy.

The Indian Removal Act of 1830 squeaked through Congress with the support of the Democratic Party against the opposition of the Whig (conservative) Party. Cherokee tribes and others fought it in the courts to no avail. The Seminoles and others fought it with weapons, also to no avail. Andrew Jackson's implementation represented the consensus of white settlers at the time, many of whom still believed Native Americans to be savages.

The Whig Party was not the conservative party of the time - the Democratic Party was. The Whigs were for a strong national government, large government spending on infrastructure, and staying out of imperialist ventures like the Mexican War. The Democratic Party of the time was conservative and held the reverse positions on these issues.

Exactly what is happening in Palestine. Such people who are perpetrators of settler colonialism are evil. Take Balfour for instance who came up with the Balfour Declaration that is the reason of settler colonialism in Palestine today and all the horrible things Israelis are inflicting on the indigenous people of the land they are illegally occupying. A few days there was a news piece on a group of pro-Palestine protestors vandalizing Balfour's portrait at Cambridge.

Not just this coup. There are many, many dictators and terror-regimes helped into the saddle by the USA, not to mention enabling political assassination (Lumumba, for example) and active d**g-deals and weapon-deals. The taliban was put into position to be the terror they are now by the US government. It's honestly wild what that one country has f*cked up in the name of "fighting communism".

Daughters of the Confederacy… they pushed a revisionist view of the Civil War in the south and this idea that it was about states rights and not slavery… also took part in building statues of confederate soldiers and glorifying them. It’s why so many conservatives and people from the south have a positive outlook of the confederacy and that it’s a part of “southern heritage”.

I grew up in the North, and even our High School American History textbooks had this revisionist nonsense about the Civil War being over States' Rights and "socio-economic differences." Google "The Cornerstone Speech," and you'll hear the real reason straight from the horse's a$$.

The Daughters of the Confederacy are cunning and play the long game. They have had a deep influence over the history and social studies text books used by the majority of public schools due to their large sphere of influence in Texas. Since Texas has a very large number of schools, text book companies try to meet the state standards so their books will be bought. They don't print different books for different states, so the points the Daughters want made are spread further as more influenced text books are sold nationally.

Remember during the early stages of Black Lives Matter when people were freaking out about statues of Confederate 'heroes' being pulled down? ("Nooooo!!!! They are destroying history? How can BLM be so denialist and disrespectful?!?!?") Total B.S. Most of those statues were NOT put up in the aftermath ofthe Civil War by a grieving South mourning their loss. (Not that would have been a good thing anyway.....). NOPE. Many of those statues were put up by the DAR during the Civil Rights movement as a way to intimidate and sneer at black leaders like MLK. ('Nice civil rights you're asking for there. Be a real shame if we went back to celebrating slavery and Jim Crowism.'). So, DAR -- a bunch of Gone With the Wind cosplayers -- were creating privately paid propaganda pieces that are about as historical as my grandpa's used boxer shorts.

Well, you're right and you're wrong. The overall reason the war was declared was because wealthy people, who also just happened to have all the power, owned and wanted to keep slaves, in order to maintain/grow their wealth. But, those folks were rarely doing the fighting. Instead, less affluent people with no slaves or a very small number of slaves fought. If they lost the right to keep slaves, it wouldn’t much change their way of life. So, they were made to feel that the northern states were being disrespectful of the rights of the southern states to determine their own destiny, in other words: states rights. Also, many Southerners have positive feelings about the Confederacy because they are either racists, idiots or have watched Gone With the Wind too many times. I LOVE the South, but our early chapters were barbaric and shameful. Still, this is the past we’ve inherited, so it IS our Southern Heritage. Wether we like it or not.

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Mobutu Sese Seko, president of then-Zaire. He died in a luxurious exile in Morocco at age 79. He would have meals flown in from Michelin-rated restaurants in Paris on chartered flights of the supersonic Concorde, because regular airliners weren't fast enough to deliver it fresh enough to his liking. He even spent millions to build a new airport, as none of the existing airports had the 3-kilometer long runway to handle the Concorde. The average citizen under his rule had an annual salary of less than $150, roughly 50 cents a day. A single passenger ticket on the Concorde is about $20,000 in today's dolars.

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It The Marcos family. This family plundered almost the entire Philippine treasury during Ferdinand Marcos’ two decade rule. They were exiled to Hawaii for a few years, but they were able to go back to the Philippines nevertheless. They (Imelda (the wife of Ferdinand Marcos), Imee (the daughter of FM), and Bongbong (the son) were also able to run for politics again. Despite the records being unequivocally clear that the Marcoses plundered the Philippine government, (Imelda was actually convicted, but was never jailed for “humanitarian reasons”) the Marcoses are now back. Imee is a senator, and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is now the president of the Philippines. Imelda is also still convicted but has still not, and it looks like will never in her life, taste jail time. Trillions of pesos and tens of thousands of lives lost.

The US -- and maybe many other countries -- need to massively overhaul their lobbying, corporate regulation, and financial laws. I'm not necessarily anti-business, but the way money buys political access and favors is incredibly anti-democratic. The way some rich dude or impersonal corporation is essentially politically worth the same as thousands and thousands of actual voters utterly breeds corruption and minority rule. Basically a bought and paid for oligarchy where your vote isn't worth the ballot paper it is printed on.

How evil openly supporting and funding gay marriage since 1971, openly coming out in favor of trans rights back in 1980 and funding a lot of the early trans movement, opposing US intervention in foreign wars including lobbying against the Iraq war, etc. How evil of them

So many of the politicians opposing gay marriage and trans rights and advocating US intervention were elected due to campaign donations from those same Koch brothers.

Dr. John Money's theory behind gender has reached mainstream acceptance in much of the civilized world, despite the unconscionable experiments he performed on innocent children. A truly evil man whom history does not vilify anywhere near enough.

As an intersex woman who was "altered" to be male under Money's crackpot theories, it sickens me that to this day there are firm advocates of his idea of forcing a sexual identity on a child through surgical alteration. To the point that it's considered standard practice to write loopholes in transphobic laws to allow the continued mutilation and gaslighting of intersex infants and children. The pain he caused is still ongoing, and heavily supported by conservatives in nearly every nation on the planet.

Being a conservative, I don't know any conservatives that support genital/body mutilation of children. We are actually trying to stop "progressives" from forcing this on children until they are of adult age to make the decision for themselves.

Thankfully the majority of transgender activists and people in the community whole heartedly reject his b******t. It's mostly the medical industry that is still behind so far that they believe in that (and enforce it).

Issei Sagawa. A small, frail, and loner of a Japanese guy, with some demonic mind. Was obsessed with cannibalism, had a failed attempt at doing so, when he stalked a German woman in university and broke into her place with the intention of killing her to eat her buttocks. Later he unfortunately succeeds during his stay in Sorbonne, France, when he murdered a Dutch woman whom he befriended (the only one who befriended him I might add) in his apartment after having invited her, performed necrophilia and cannibalism over the span of a few days. He came from a wealthy family that afforded him an expensive lawyer and got off essentially scot-free on insanity plea. He returned home back to Japan where then he became a superstar. He wrote a bestselling book that detailed the murder and his experience, guest starred in many TV shows to further talk about it. Later died at 73, in 2022.

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Genghis Khan.

    asterboy:

Was waiting for this. Few people in history, let alone this list, come close to the level of civilisational and cultural death and destruction this man caused. Not only did he get away with it, he died an emperor and spawned a dynasty.

    Workin_Ostrich:

He would starve out entire cities because his army was so big, they would enslave or kill everyone and he would marry his daughters off to kings and whatnot then his daughters would kill them and take over the ruled lands to give to Kahns armies. Throughout his reign Kahn and his armies killed over 40 million people and enslaved twice that many.

Nearly 8 percent of the men living in the region of the former Mongol empire today carry y-chromosomes that are nearly identical to that of Genghis Kahn.

The Mongols wiped out 40-50% of Hungary's population in the 13th century (1.5 million out of 3 million), with losses of up to 80% in some areas. They carried out horrific executions, e.g. archaeologists recently found an oven containing the skeletons of a mother and her two children.

The Hardcore History of the Mongol Empire is a pretty excellent podcast. Genghis definitely was responsible for a lot of death, but I don't know what he was any more evil or brutal that other people of the era, he was just better at it. We are talking the 1100's and 1200's here. There is some evidence that he was less so actually. That he allowed religious and pretty much general freedom for conquered people, and that people were allowed to join his army instead of just being killed.

You're conveniently forgetting he was the one ruler who allowed females to lead troops and hold various positions of power; left towns and villages in peace if they didn't fight; let the people he conquered maintain their religions, customs, and social structures; and he adopted many customs of the people he conquered.

Caylee Marie Anthony was an American toddler who lived in Orlando, Florida, with her mother, Casey Marie Anthony and her maternal grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony. On July 15, 2008, Caylee was reported missing by Cindy, who said she had not seen the child for thirty-one days. According to Cindy, Casey had given varied explanations as to Caylee's whereabouts before eventually saying she had not seen her daughter for weeks. Casey was charged with first-degree murder in October 2008 and pleaded not guilty. It was alleged Casey wished to free herself from parental responsibilities and murdered her daughter by administering chloroform and applying duct tape to her nose and mouth . The defense stated that Caylee had drowned accidentally in the family's swimming pool and that George had disposed of the body. Casey was found not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter of a child, but guilty of four misdemeanours. (Wikipedia)

This one is a bit of a stretch. Nobody really knows what happened to her daughter and nobody every will. It's entirely possible that she was telling the truth and had nothing to do with it. I don't think that, but that doesn't really matter, that's basically what the jury agreed on.

Not sue what it says about the American legal system. I guess Anthony got off after spending $400,000 on lawyers, supposedly "pro bono." Some think she paid with sex.... maybe that someone without access to so much lawyering would've been found guilty? She claimed her child was murdered, then accused of committing the murder, and claimed she had actually just panicked after a terrible accident. The media made the case that she was a terrible person, not that the state knew how the child died. The big screw-up to me seems to be that the prosecution neglected to consider lesser charges if she was found innocent of the giant ones: mishandling a corpse, for instance, could have gotten her five years, comparable to a manslaughter charge.

Wernher von Braun, engineer of the v2, opportunistic nazi, denied his involvement, awarded by Hitler twice in person, used Jewish slave labour denied he knew about it, however there were many accounts of him visiting and encouraging violence to slaves, feared execution at the end of the war, surrendered to the USA and then after the war was lauded and celebrated for getting America to the moon even meeting the president and later being awarded a medal.

General Franz Halder, chief of staff of the German Army (Wehrmacht) from 1938-1942 reporting directly to Adolf Hitler. Halder oversaw the planning for the invasions of Poland, France and Russia (Operation Barbarossa). Among other abominations, he added language into the Barbarossa battle order giving German officers the right to destroy Russian villages and massacre their civilian inhabitants. Thus Halder sanctioned some of the most heinous atrocities committed in all of human history. Despite Halder’s complicity in war crimes of the greatest magnitude, he wasn’t tried at Nuremberg and was instead allowed to join the U.S. Army as a historian. Recognizing an opportunity to rewrite history, he manipulated the official Army account of the war to elevate the Wehrmacht into a force fighting for a noble cause. In 1961, the Army, on behalf of President Kennedy, awarded him the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Halder died in his bed in 1972 at age 87.

The latter stages of WWII were less about the Allies vs. Germany than they were about the western sphere of influence vs. the Soviet sphere of influence. There was significant technological development on all fronts and the end goal was to take as much of Germany's development for themselves as possible.

Why isn't Hitler himself anywhere on this list? Can you people seriously say that you actually believe that Hitler, A: wasn't completely evil, or B: was ever actually punished for his multiple atrocities? There's something wrong with the world if Adolf Hitler doesn't make this list; he should be very near, or at, the top.

Did we change in the way they wanted us to change? They won in the fact that we ended up electing a president who groveled so wantonly to the fascists' coreligionists that they gave bin Laden an honorable burial at sea, gave Afghanistan back to the Taleban (with tens of billions of dollars of equipment), and funded an ISIS revolution against the relatively moderate Syrian government.

Álvaro Uribe in Colombia, during his governments, since he changed the constitution to be reelected, he implemented a narco-policy for the military that killed at least 6500 innocent people to pass them off as members of the guerrillas and d**g clans while he himself organized large para-military groups that were responsible for razing entire villages in order to expand their estates and his political friends and family could appropriate millions of hectares of land of peasants to expand their own d**g plantations. More than 80 of his political supporters have been captured, charged, but he only says that "it was all behind my back", after 20 years he still has almost 200 bodyguards paid by the Colombian taxpayers and lives in the greatest of luxuries at the expense of the government coffers. But Columbus personally? Nope. I had professional reason to make a very deep, far reaching study of him. He was a man of his time, meaning he was a medieval Christian. He was a truly incredible seaman. I mean, amazing. He probably also had several undiagnosed mental and physical disorders. But evil? Nope. I'm not saying put the statues back up! But he shouldn't have to carry the can for all of European 'exploration'.

He shipped an awful lot of Roman Catholics from Ireland to the USA as slaves and then repopulated Ireland with Puritans from Scotland - my mother's family included.

    Fidel Castro.

It's glorious to see them undoing his life's work as soon as he died. Died in 2016, changed the constitution in 2019 to roll back socialism, de facto abandoned socialism in 2021.

Mao, Cromwell, and Castro (all on this list) prove that whoever leads the revolution should not necessarily end up the one in power. Moses never even entered the Promised Land.

Fidel Castro was an inevitable outcome of the US owning much of the business' and manipulating Cuba into providing cheap oil. The reason he is so hated is that he took rich American white men's Cuban property and gave it back to the Cuban government and American politicians just couldn't stand for that. Read his autobiography, he was terrible but much of the suffering under his time was because of corrupt capitalism controlling American politics. Rich people hate socialism because it takes away their ability to exploit people.

People were scared to mention his name when I went to Cuba in the 90s. He was a brutal dictator.

His buddy Che Guevara should be right up there with him.

William of Orange. Still a hero in the Netherlands but he was a ruthless power hungry backstabber. He used religious extremists to gather his army, first the lutherians, but later the radical calvinists. They were comparable to IS nowadays. Brutal attacks on churches followed by mass killings of catholics in Belgium and the Netherlands. It changed the Netherlands into a state of anarchy and later a puritanical state.

“A Genuine Monster”: 40 Of The Most Evil People Across History That Got Away With It Augustus. He was actually a pretty good emperor. He wasnt evil in the sense that he killed tens of thousands for his enjoyment but if it was advantages for him to kill thousands he wasnt thinking for a second. So once he was on top and everyone did whatever he wanted anyway he became a good leader. His way to the top however was covered in blood. The only reasons he is remembered as a good leader is because he outlived almost everyone who was already adult when he made his way up the roman ladder. If he had died after 10 years or something he would be hated.

Winston Churchill, starved millions in Bengal. Sent the black and Tans to terrorise and murder Irish civilians. An evil man who is widely regarded as a good guy because of the evil of those he fought in WW2.

Wanted to break the National strike in the 1920s by using aristocrats to dive buses and so on and shoot anyone who was on strike. Was MP to Oldham and Rochdale and borrowed so much money from the USA that they were still paying it back over 50 years later - and I'm not sure anyone could say what he'd built - for the good of the people - with the money

Not to mention spearheading a disastrous campaign in WWI at Gallipoli that caused 100,000s deaths, setting the army on striking miners, Spearheading another disastrous campaign in Norway in WWII, and another a year later by sending battleships to the far east, causing another few hundred deaths, and another in 1944 at Arnhem. Then after the war opposing the creation of a universal healthcare system. He was pig-headed, hubristic, and often downright incompetent. But nowadays it's almost impossible to criticize him- he's the "greatest briton of all time" and to point out any of his failings is seen as unpatriotic.

Why isn't Hitler himself anywhere on this list? Can you people seriously say that you actually believe that Hitler, A: wasn't completely evil, or B: was actually punished for his multiple atrocities? There's something wrong with the world if Adolf Hitler doesn't make this list; he should be very near, or at, the top. There's something even worse wrong with the world if people actually believe that Winston Churchill and Ronald Reagan were worse than Hitler.

It's one list on social media. It's not the final word nor is it set in stone. The title and description make it clear that it's not a complete list.

One of the better things he did was co-create the European Court of Human Rights. Which the right wing in the uk is blaming for all sorts. If we left the ECHR then it will be our rights that will be taken not asylum seekers or whoever the tories want to ship to Rwanda.
